The concept of the London 2012 mascots is based on the two stories written by Michael Morpurgo: "Out Of A Rainbow" and "Adventures On A Rainbow". The animated mascots are designed by agency Iris.

According to the books, the Mascots are born from the drops of steel that are used for London’s 2012 Olympic stadium. The Mascots are named as Wenlock and Mandeville.

Mandeville is the official mascot for Paralympics.
