According to a poll for askmen.com, the biggest drinkers are the Irish at 131 litres of beer per person per year and a tendency to binge drink at leat once a week. This poll puts the Finns and the English (both nations that also tend towards binge drinking) in second and third place respectively.
However, more recent polls put the Czech Republic in first place, and this data was accurate in 2011. Czechs are often heavy beer drinkers, with beer at over half of all national alcohol consumption and the average person consuming 158.6 litres per year. Generally, the most reliable answers put Czechs first, Germany second and Ireland third. The only non-European country in the top five is Australia. In fact, of the top 25 beer drinking countries, nearly all are European, with New Zealand and South Africa appearing lower down the list.
