Annette Funicello was married twice. Her first husband was cating director Jack Gilardi, who was also her agent and whom she married in 1965. They had three children: Gina, Jack and Jason, born between 1966 and 1974. The couple divorced in 1983 after 18 years of marriage. After the divorce, Funicello later said that she had to learn how to manage by herself for the first time, because she had always been looked after, first by her father, then her boss and then her husband.
Then in 1986 she married Glen Holt, a horse trainer and breeder. Later in her life the couple lived on a small ranch together. She did little acting in later years, though she sometimes appeared in commercials with her children.
In 1987, while working on a film project, she started to show symptoms of multiple sclerosis. She eventually died from problems related to this disease on 8 April 2013.
