The director of Prometheus is Ridley Scott. He is probably best known for Alien, the 1979 science fiction horror movie for which Prometheus is a prequel (though it is also meant to stand alone for people who haven't seen Alien).

But Scott is also known for several other blockbusters including Blade Runner, another sci-fi classic, Thelma and Louise (sometimes described as the first 'buddy' moive starring women), Gladiator and Black Hawk Down. He has also produced many more films. You can see a full list of all his projects here.

The musical score was composed by Marc Streitenfeld, who has often worked with Ridley Scott. It was recorded in London with a 90 piece orchestra, and parts of the score are played backwards by the orchestra, recorded and then digitally reversed, to aid the spooky atmosphere of the film. The soundtrack to Prometheus is now available as an album.
