Most of the highest paid jobs are one-offs, ie the salary is negotiated individually, so they don't show up on national figures. Also, industries often try to find ways of hiding the information, using bonus systems and other methods. However, the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings did manage to compile some interesting information based on 2010 figures.

Generally, the best paid position is as CEO or other senior executive in any major company. Among the professions, medicine is now the best paid (second place overall) with a typical salary at £80,000 per year. Dentistry is the 5th best paid at around £60,000.
