Stan Lee was born on 28 December 1922, so he is now 90 years old.
His full name is Stanley Martin Lieber and he was born in New York. Stan Lee's career began early; after a poor childhood, in 1939 (aged 17) he began working with Timely Comics, which would later become Marvel Comics. At first he just did odd jobs and ran errands, but by 1941 he was already working on the Captain America series, and it was then that he began to use the name Stan Lee by which he has been known ever since. In the same year he produced a comic-book hero of his own - the Destroyer - and gained an editorial position. He held other positions at Marvel over the years, including publisher and, for a short time, president.
Often working with Jack Kirby, Lee is behind some of the world's most famous comic book characters including Spider-Man, the Hulk and X-Men.
