Batman was created the american artist Bob Kane (October 24, 1915 – November 3, 1998).

He told that the inspiration behind the Bat-Man was the actor Douglas Fairbanks (famous for his appearances in action films as The Zorro), Leonardo Da Vinci's designs of flying machines and the 1930's film The Bat Whispers.

Batman was first published in the Detective Comics #37 in May 1939 and since then has become one of the favorite super-heroes of many generations of comic-book readers and a succesful movie, TV and animation icon.
