Is Blue Peter losing viewers?

LIke many other children's shows on the BBC and other mainstream channels, Blue Peter has lost audience share in the last few years. In 2004 viewing figures reached 1,400,000, which might be less than the programmes heyday (when there were very few channels to choose from, so all shows had higher figures than today) but is still a lot better than the trend in recent years. In the last 5 or 6 years Blue Peter has had audience figures of around 4 to 5,000,000.
This may not be because the show itself is less popular, but because the BBC is losing viewers of children's programmes on all its main channels. This is mainly because children or their parents are going straight to dedicated children's channels like CBBC, and that's why in May 2012 the BBC decided to move Blue Peter to CBBC, along with some other old favourites such as Newsround. They hope that this move will improve the figures.
