Learning to be a Jedi has a simplicity about it that belies the complexity of the task.

The fundamental aim of being a Jedi is to bring morality and justice to the universe. They aim to use their moral code and to put aside personal passions in order to bring harmony.

So the first thing to do is to get your morals organised and put aside any passions that could interfere with those morals.

Having achieved this your actions will be guided by the moral code rather than personal needs or desires and you will begin to feel the 'Force'.

The Force is good and will help you in all aspects of life, at least those aspects of life that don't involve your personal needs. It will give you an almost religious belief in your ability, this is where it starts to get very tricky. You are right to feel that the Force is good and gives you the power, but it would be a mistake to use that power to your own ends.

In a film situation it is very easy to know the good guys from the bad, but in real life you will rarely be able to make that judgement. Luckily the technology for light sabres is not yet available so the decision of when to use one on the bad guys is one you don't have to make.

Luke Skywalker may have felt able to take the law into his own hands but in real life we cannot. Luke's struggle in the film is symbolic of the struggles we have in real life and should not be taken literally - being a Jedi is about peace and harmony, not killing baddies!

As a real world religion Jedi is quite new, you might do well to study the teachings of Buddha if you want to reach a point where morals rather than passion rule your life - you may well see similarities between the Jedi Force and Buddhist Enlightenment.
