To find out the most searched words of all time may be difficult, and you would probably need to use the special Adwords tool to find out. However, as the number of internet users is growing every day, it makes sense that the figures for last year would probably be among the highest ever.

According to some research, the most searched item for both 2010 and 2011 was Facebook. By early 2011 it had over 2 billion hits, and this will have increased still further by now. In fact terms related to Facebook, eg facebook.com, were four out of the top ten searches for 2011, and it got 3 1/2 percent of the top 50 searches. Most other top search items were also names of search engines or social media, for example Yahoo or Youtube. There were also more practical searches, with Ebay and Craigslist high on the list.
