The most important thing to know is to notify DVLA the change of the ownership by sending them the relevant section on your V5C form. Failing doing so, you will be liable for any offence related to your car including parking tickets, speeding tickets, and unpaid car tax etc.

When sending the letter to DVLA, its better to send it as a recorded delivery and keep also a copy of the form sent for future correspondence. You should get a confirmation from DVLA within 4 weeks to remove the ownership from the car. If not, you need to contact the DVLA immediately.
