If you type 'best films of 2012' in a search engine you will get plenty of recommendations for good films - though as it is only October, there is still time for some more to be released.

One of the biggest successes this year has been The Hunger Games, as big a hit as the book. It's very topical with its themes of extreme poverty and wealth, and the exploitation of people for public entertainment. Another top favourite is The Cabin in the Woods, nowhere near as big a box-office success but thought by many to be the best suspense/horror film for some time.

If you're looking for a real hit, try The Avengers (or the Marvel Avengers). This is now the third highest grossing movie in history with takings of over $1 1/2 billion.
