Fernando Torres has been the object of fierce criticism since he left Liverpool in a £40 million transfer to Chelsea FC. Ever since he left Liverpool, Torres performances have been poor and he has not met the great expectations of his transfer as he has only scored 12 goals in his two seasons in Chelsea.

Lately, Torres has not escaped the criticism of the Spanish press as he missed two clear chances against Italy (in the Eurocup) that would have given Spain an important victory.

The debate centres around the idea that Torres changed the match when he came in and made his team play well; however, missing two clear chances raises doubts as to his choice as Spanish main striker to the detriment of other Spanish top strikers like Soldado.

However, the chances are he will begin the next match against Ireland as Coach Vicente del Bosque is not known precisely for taking into consideration what the press says. Del Bosque has always shown a special inclination for Torres and firmly believes that in the important absence of Villa, Torres will deliver.
