Myanmar, or Burma, is a safe country in so far as it has a low crime rate, and you should not expect big problems such as attacks on visitors. There has been unrest in the past and, as the same dictatorship is still in power, this could happen again, but at present it seems the regime is opening up, visitors are being encouraged and the country appears to be peaceful. Some tour operators think this is a good time to go; not many are still boycotting the country, and the people of Burma are often keen to take advantage of tourism and reconnect with the outside world after being cut off for so long.
