Mother's Day in 2012 will be on Sunday 18 March. In many countries it's celebrated in May, but the UK traditon dates back hundreds of years. Traditionally you would bake your mother a cake, especially a simnel cake, go to her house and take her the cake as well as another small gift. Nowadays, although the cake is becoming popular again, it's more common to take your mum out for a special meal (if you do this you will need to book early, as people arrange it weeks in advance.)

If you aren't having a meal out you could invite your mum over and make her a special lunch instead, with maybe her favourite cake. Other nice gifts include flowers and chocolates of course (I know they're obvious but my mother could never get enough of them!)
