The point of the opening ceremony was very much to celebrate national events and collective achievements, so it wasn't really about individual dancers and performers. There were some individual performances that stood out, but they weren't dancers - for example, Kenneth Branagh as Isambard Kingdom Brunel reciting Shakespeare, which was to highlight the achievements of two of the UK's greatest historical figures, or the light relief provided by Rowan Atkinson as Mr Bean or the Queen's James Bond sketch with Daniel Craig.

The dance sequences that people mainly remember are all collective ones - the nurses and patients, for example, celebrating the NHS, or of course the Suffragettes and the Hunger Marchers to remind us of past struggles. Even Mary Poppins was represented by a whole troupe of dancers, though at least there was only one Voldemort.

Many of the dancers and other performers were volunteers, which again was very much in the spirit of the 2012 Games - all about celebrating what humans can do together.
