In previous surveys Switzerland was named as the biggest user. However, according to the Expert Solutions website and others, the country that eats the most chocolate is Ireland, where people on average get through 11.2 kilos a year, or 24.7 pounds - about 2 lb a month, or just over an ounce a day if you think about it.
Germany and Belgium munch nearly as much, with 11.1 and 11 kilos respectively, and the Swiss are down to fourth place. The British seem to be consuming less than before, unless the other countries have just overtaken us - UK consumption is down to about 10.2 kilos.
Generally it's European countries who seem to like chocolate most - the USA and Australia are a long way down the list, while out of the 15 countries surveyed, Canada is the most modest of all at 3.9 kilos per capita - just behind Italy, which consumes a lot less than most European nations.
