Exact figures on the ethnic diversity of cities aren't available yet, or can be unreliable - partly because migration figures and patterns change all the time. However, you can get details of ethnic diversity within specific boroughs from the Office for National Statistics. According to this, the most ethnically diverse place in Egnland and Wales is the London borough of Brent, in which over a third of the population is of non-British origin. The ONS doesn't have figures for Scotland or Northern Ireland though, as they have their own statistics.

If you had to choose one city as an example of diversity, it would probably be Leicester. Leicester in the last few years has reached a point where it is expected to have no single overall ethnic majority by 2010, as the number of groups living there is so large. Birmingham is not far behind.

Overall, the number of non-European people now living in Britain is about 9 million, or just under 1 in 6 of the population. This is a large increase over 10 years ago, when the figure was 6.6 million.
