As the name suggested, carrier oil carries the essential oil (e.g. lavender, peppermint) onto the skin. Since they provides lubrication, carrier oils are used to diluted essential oils to allow them smoothly apply on the skin. Therefore, carrier oils are good and important for body massage and aromatherapy.

For the penetration to take place effectively, the carrier oil needs to be non-sticky and light. While most of essential oils contain aroma compounds, most of the carrier oils are ordorless. Olive oil, Grape seed oil, Sweet almond oil, Avocado oil, Sesame oil, Evening primrose, Jojoba oil, Emu oil are some of the most common used carrier oil.
