The London Velodrome, located in the north of the Olympic Park is a really beautiful building that hosts Cycling Track competitions, in which England holds major chances of winning medals.

the velodrome is awesome. It's shape resembles that of long and stylish sailing boat from one side, but from above it's a winged oval-shaped plate. Actually the reddish colour of the exterior is due to red cedar wood.

But the most interesting aspect of the velodrome is the coupling of form and ecological sustainability. The velodrome has natural ventilation and sunlight, which makes the use of fuel energy redundant. Also, the wood selected for the track is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, whose mission is to ensure that the harvest of timber respects biodiversity and natural processes.

Finally, the winged oval-shaped plate roof does not have a merely aesthetic function: rain water is collected, reducing the use of mains water by 70%.
