This year's Tour de France will begin on 29 June 2013. As always, it will begin on a Saturday. However, this is an unusual Tour: It's the 100th anniversary of the first one so the organisers want to commemorate that.
For this reason it will have several unusual features. Most importantly, the whole tour is to take place in France, with no stops in Belgium or any other neighbouring country - this has not happened since 1988. Also, the tour will begin in Corsica, in the city of Port--Vecchio, with the first stage ending in the commune of Bastia. Corsica is the only department of France (ie France itself, rather than overseas territories) which has never hosted the tour, so it's again a very special occasion that they have chosen it for the beginning of this one. In fact the next two stages of the tour will also be in Corsica - in Ajaccio and Calvi - before moving on to Nice on the mainland.
