Vienna is famous for its Christmas markets, most of which
will open on 17 November this year (the start of Advent). One of the most
popular of the 'Christkindlmarkts' is held in front ofthe Rathaus or
City Hall. This market has a top review on Tripadvisor;
it is the biggest of Vienna's markets and, while some of the goods are
expensive, there is a good range and the quality is high. There is a great
atmosphere with the typical German/Austrian traditions of hot spiced wine,
sausage snacks and Christmas treats like gingerbread.
Another plus of this market is the location: It is right in the city's historic centre and is also next to the Rathauspark (city hall park). This is also full of Christmas attractions for children, including pony rides and a Christmas Express train.
Other famous Viennese markets include those at Freyung, Am Hof and Spittelberg.
