Father's Day in the US is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. That means that this year it wlll fall on 17 June, the same as in the UK.

Father's Day is a relatively recent celebration, unlike Mothering Sunday or Mother's Day. Mothering Sunday began hundreds of years ago as a way to let girls in domestic service have a day off to go and visit their mothers, and only later evolved into a celebration of mothers themselves.

Father's Day started in the US about 100 years ago and has since spread to many countries around the world. It may have started after a group of men, many of them the fathers of young families, were killed in an industrial accident; but this is not sure. Father's Day is celebrated in a similar way to Mother's Day - for example, most people would give their dad a present on this day, take him our for a meal and so on.
