In the UK, and therefore in other countries that use the Catholic (rather than the Orthodox) calendar, Easter Sunday will be on 31 March in 2013. That means that Easter Week itself begins on 24 March with Palm Sunday.
In the UK the official public holidays will be on 29 March (Good Friday) and 1 April (Easter Monday). Most countries that celebrate Easter at this time will also have a holiday on Good Friday, but the UK is unusual in taking the Monday off too. It allows families to have a 4-day weekend together, and people typically go off on a trip.
As school holidays are now set by local authorities rather than central government, some schools will start their two weeks' Easter holiday on 25 March and some later.
