What are the side effects of eating too many cherries?

If you eat huge amounts of just about any food, you won't feel very well, and cherries are no exception. They are a relatively rich fruit too, and if you ate a whole plateful you would probably feel rather sick and might even develop a mild stomach ache or diahrrea. There have been claims that too much of the flavonoid quercetin, in which cherries are also rich, can cause upsets, but the evidence for this isn't strong.

Cherries are a good source of vitamin C and B, and a good handful will boost your vitamin intake significantly. This is also about the amount you would consume in a pie or cake, which is also fine.

One reason why people are asking about the side effects of eating cherries may be that an old story about President Zachary Taylor has been circulating on the internet lately. It's true he died (in 1850) after eating a lot of cherries, but there is no reason to think they killed him.
