The cheapest and best method is ... just give up. But you knew that, didn't you? Maybe my example will help.

I smoked 16-20 a day for over 20 years, tried and failed to give up twice. When I finally decided to do it for real, I set a day weeks in advance for giving up. On that day I smoked my last ever cigarette and threw away the rest of the pack (running it under water so I couldn't go and fish it out of the bin later!) I took a few days off work so I would have no stress, and for the first week I just baked cakes, ate a lot and walked for miles. I kept a 'smoking diary' and used the NHS site which is incredibly helpful especially the quitters' stories. There is even a help line if you feel you can't hold out much longer.

After two weeks the worst really is over. You can then take up a sport or something and enjoy being able to breathe deeply. Also, I saved all the money I would have spent on smoking and spent it on things I really wanted - it's incredible how much you save.

Last tip: if you ever catch yourself saying 'I can't give up' - well, that's nonsense. You can, you are just choosing not to. And nearly 7 years later I can tell you that life after nicotine is much, much nicer! Very best of luck.
