This is Angel Falls in Caracas, Venezuela. This waterfall is 979 metres high including cascades and rapids, and is situated in the Canaima National Park. Because of its great height, by the time it reaches the bottom the water is in the form of mist, which makes it very beautiful to see. The waterfall is named after a US aviator called Jimmie Angel, who was looking for the fabled Eldorado or Golden Country when he flew over the area. It is also often known, in Spanish, by a name that translates roughly as 'the fall from the highest place'.

More famous internationally is Niagara falls in Canada, and many people believe the highest waterfall to be here. In fact, though, even the highest of the three falls at Niagara is 53.6 metres at most (including the rocks at its base).

Angel Falls is one of Venezuela's major tourist attractions.
