How do I clean leather shoes?

You can clean leather shoes using a cream based or wax based polish. A cream polish will help protect the leather, but a wax one gives a brighter shine and is good for covering up scratches. However, wax polish can have a drying effect over time. It's also possible to use a special leather soap, such as saddle soap, to clean your shoes before polishing them, especially if they are very dirty.

Shoes should be wiped clean (and soaped with leather soap if necessary) and perfectly dry before polishing. Never use anything scratchy to clean them, instead use a soft cloth and as little water as possible. Then polish one shoe all over from heel to toe, polish the second one in the same way and then, when the polish has dried, buff them both with a horsehair brush and finish off with a soft cloth.
