Same as the other housework, the best thing to do is to clean it regularly because a dirty oven is very trick to clean and time-consuming. However, cleaning the oven is often one of the most neglected jobs in your kitchen. Before you use any methods mentioned in the internet, always check your manufacturer's booklet.

You can try a traditional cleaning method by making a solution of bicarbonate of soda. This a cheap but effective may to get your dirty oven clean as you only need to some bicarb and water. Mix 1/2 tbsp bicarb with 500ml water, and swab the mixture over the oven and shelves, and leave it for about 35 minutes or longer. Once the mixture dries, you will see a white-streaked, powdery finish where the solution is applied. Use a wallpaper scraper to remove the stains and job done!

If the oven has not been cleaned for a long time, and the above operation has not achieved your satisfaction, you may want to try the following method. But be aware that it is not a environmentally friend method and can be toxic.

  1. put 1 tbsp of household ammonia in a dish
  2. put the dish in a barely warm oven (NOT HOT)
  3. turn off the oven immediately and leave overnight.
  4. open the kitchen windows and keep it airy
  5. use hot water to wipe out the oven (Do NOT use any detergent)

Please note ammonia is a powerful stuff and gives off toxic and choking fumes. Therefore, it needs to be handled with extra caution. This method should always be treated as a last resort.

If you are not bothered to clean it yourself at all, you can contact a specialist oven-cleaning firm in your area by doing a search on google.
