Men tend to have more body hair than women due to the production of androgens (male hormones). The amount of hair varies hugely even within racial communities, but some overall differences have been found.

Generally, Caucasian males have more body hair than Africans or Asians. However, if there is one ethnic group that tends to have the highest levels of body hair, it may be the Ainu people who live mainly in areas like Hokkaido in Japan and parts of Russia. It's uncertain how true this is, partly because the Ainu people have tended to intermarry with the larger Japanese or Russian populations, so some of their original characteristics are harder to observe.
