Because menopause generates unpredictable hormones, most women often suffer mood swings, anxiety, depression, insomnia and etc. You can try medical remedy by restoring the hormones that your body can no longer produce properly. You can also try short term anti-depressant medicines. But you need to be aware that they may cause side effects.

During menopause, it is important that you have a balanced diet, which should include whole grains, fruits and vegetables. Try to avoid processed foods, e.g frozen ready meals.

In addition to a health diet, exercise is also the key. Practicing meditation or yoga can help you to relax for both your mind and your body. Walking in open air (e.g. park) for about 30 minutes each day can alleviate depression.

Whenever you feel nervous or anxious, try to relax your shoulders and take a deep breath for couple seconds before releasing it. Be open about your problems as depression is best discussed with someone so that you will not delve too much on them.

If none of the above helps, you should consult your doctor immediately, particularly if you are feeling very down (e.g.suicidal tendencies).
