Is Eurodisney a success or a failure?

The original Eurodisney ran into trouble almost from the start. It opened in 1992 to great publicity, but didn't manage to get the visitor numbers or the profits it has predicted. The idea was also unpopular with many French people as they felt it was another example of American influence taking over their culture. There was also a severe recession in the early 1990s so it wasn't the best time to open a theme park.

From 1995 things began to improve as more attractions were added, especially the Space Mountain, and investors begain to take an interest in the park again. The name was changed to Disneyland Paris and the business finally began to make a profit. However, from 2002 the park started making a loss again, and the parent Walt Disney company had to write off its debts to keep it going.Today it is France's biggest attraction but still has huge debts - so whether it is a success or failure probably remains to be seen.
