Shanghai has two main international airports. These are Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqaio International Airport. The larger and more international of these is Pudong, the third busiest airport in China, which serves well over 40 million passengers a year and most of the world's major airlines. It is about 20 miles from the city centre and is connected to the city by rail and underground links. The aiport has two terminals, with a third expected to be finished in 2015. When this is complete, Pudong will have a capacity of 80 million passengers per year as well as a very large freight handling capacity.
Hongqaio, while still a very large airport (with about 30 million passengers per year it is the fourth busiest Chinese airport) is more used by domestic flights, and its international traffic is mainly short-haul flights. It is also very important for freight.
