As with any product that has received a lot of hype, the second stage is that people start spreading rumours about side effects. Among the stories circulated have been a claim that it causes cancer and that it leaches vitamins and minerals from your skin. So far there is no evidence that any of this is true. Of course, as with any skincare product, some people will be allergic to it (it does contain allergens) or simply find that it doesn't work for them; and like any mineral product it could clog the pores; but these aren't exactly side effects.

As for how well it works, again there is no real scientific evidence yet. But the response from users suggests that it can be effective in helping scars to fade, though less so in reducing stretch marks. This could possibly be because people will normally use a skincare product when the problem is new (ie, a new scar) and scars tend to start fading on their own more quickly than stretch marks. A proper study with double blind trials would help to establish whether it really works.
