The most common remedy for hay fever is antihistamines. You can take these either as a nasal spray or in pill form, and they provide relief to the greatest number of sufferers. You can get them from the pharmacy without needing a doctor. However, they don't suit everyone. There are also other medications such as corticosteroids, nasal sprays and decongestants. If you have severe hay fever and none of the over the counter remedies help, you may need to see a doctor, who can recommend more specialist treatment such as anti-hay fever injections.

Some people prefer alternative remedies. There are lots of 'folk remedies' that have been used for generations; there isn't much evidence that most of these work, but they will probably do no harm either. People have tried all sorts of things from honey to butterbur; you can find information about other types of hay fever treatment here.
